We firmly believe it is important that patients attend regularly to see both the dentist for their oral medical examination (examination) and the hygienist for their maintenance periotherapy (professional clean and polish). Our belief is based on scientific evidence. Firstly 63-65% of all dental restorations (fillings, crowns and bridges) fail due to recurrent disease which is preventable. Having gum disease also increases your risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and young women has been linked to an increased incidence of low birth weight and premature birth. A little known fact is 100% of hygienist keep their teeth all their life!
We always book these appointments together unless otherwise specified by the dentist or patient. It takes approximately 30 minutes and we have a lot to do. It will include screening for gum disease, tooth disease, oral cancer and if required your jaw joint function. The hygienist will professional clean your mouth of hard and soft bacteria, remove any staining and apply any preventative treatments, like fluoride.
We understand that your time is valuable, as is ours and we always endeavour not to keep you waiting.
Patients in our monthly payment scheme will not be charged at this appointment as it forms part of the plan.
